The President of Nigeria Cricket Federation, Dr Uyi Akpata, commissioned a new turf wicket at the Community Commercial Secondary School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State donated by Promoting Earth Through Sports (PETS) Foundation, as part of the Niger Delta Sports Festival.
The commission was done with an exhibition match between team NDDC (all the 9 states that make up the Niger Delta) and team NCF, Akwa Ibom State chapter, for men’s and women’s categories.
For the men’s category, Team NDDC won 100/7 against Team NCF that had 66/8 while in the women’s category, Team NDDC won 51/2 against Team NCF 47/2.
The exhibition match was attended by Akpata, Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, who was represented by the Director of Sports, Mrs Brigid Otton, Permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs Efe A.P. Amenze, Deputy Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, RT Hon. Kufre Abasi Edidem, Chairman, Itu Local Government, Rt. Hon. Ubong Nkutt, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo of Dunamis Icon Limited, lead Consultant for the Niger Delta Sports Festival.
Akpata stated that the wicket turf is almost a reward to Akwa Ibom State to produce great athletes in the near future.
The highlight of the event was the magnificent Award ceremony.
