Chess, as one of the 17 featuring games at the ongoing Niger Delta Sports Festival holding in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital commenced on Thursday, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Nine states of the region are currently competing in both the men’s and women’s categories, and are playing in three formats – Rapid, Blitz and Team formats.
The game has three men and three men players for each state competing for a total of nine medals of three gold, three silver and three bronze, and all the formats are played in seven Rounds of Swiss for each of both genders; a style that allows winners to keep playing winners as the game proceeds until an overall winner emerges.
Winners And losers have emerged from all states in the second day of engagements at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
