Rivers State volleyball coach, John Iwerima, isn’t just here to compete—he’s here to win.
In an exclusive interview with NDSF Media, the confident coach revealed his unwavering determination to lead his team to victory. After meticulous preparation, rigorous training, and strategic player selection, Iwerima believes his squad is ready to conquer.
“First, I want to emphasize that I’m fully aligned with the NDDC’s mandate to empower youth through sports,” Iwerima stated.
“But make no mistake—we’re not just here to participate. We’re here to win.”
A team built from across Rivers State
Assembling the perfect roster was no easy feat. Iwerima and his scouts left no stone unturned, travelling to Obuama, Omoku, Bori, and Port Harcourt to handpick the best talent.
“The terrain in Rivers State isn’t easy, but we did the hard work,” he explained.
“We scouted far and wide, selected top players, and built a balanced team of fierce competitors. Now, we’re ready.”
Eyes on the prize
With his men’s and women’s teams fully prepared, Iwerima’s focus is razor-sharp.
“We picked the best. We trained hard. Now, we’re aiming for the finals—and the trophy,” he declared.
“I’m here to win, no matter what. My players are learning, growing, and fighting for every point.”
Strong start in the tournament
The Rivers teams have already shown their strength on the court. The women’s squad dominated Delta State with a clean 2-0 sweep, while the men secured a solid 2-0 victory against Edo before a tough 1-2 loss to Akwa Ibom.
But for Coach Iwerima, setbacks are just fuel for the fire.
“We’re not slowing down. The goal remains the same—victory.”
